WEBINAR PRESENTERS' ORGANIZATIONS
Action Pact, Inc. Web site: www.culturechangenow.com Phone: 414-258-3649 E-mail: lavrene@actionpact.com (LaVrene Norton)
Specializing in the area of organizational design and leadership development in long-term care culture change, Action Pact promotes the philosophy of creating a learning organization in which residents, families and staff can learn and grow together-- something we call High Involvement. A learning organization is vital to accomplishing culture change, person-centered care, resident-directed care, neighborhoods — in other words — a good daily life for the residents who live where you work.
Action Pact is the foremost leader in the Household Model, having assisted most of the early adopters in their transformations -- and works directly with organizations committed to this profound change, often beginning work with them at the visioning stage and aiding them throughout the difficult work of environmental and organizational design, change of culture, operational changes of systems processes, and development of new skills – including technical, self-led team, people and process skills.
B & F Consulting, Inc. Web site: www.BandFConsultinginc.com Phone: 401-245-0965 (Barbara Frank) or 860-546-6181 (Cathie Brady) E-mail: Bfrank1020@aol.com or Cbrady01@snet.net
B & F Consulting helps providers with the "how" of change by walking people through how to bring staff together, examine daily operations, and systematically reframe and re-organize the day-to-day of nursing home life. B & F supports providers to take on small and large changes in a "learn by doing" way — where providers learn a process for change, and staff members develop skills for change, that can then be applied to future efforts. B & F customizes services to meet provider needs, whether it be stabilizing staffing, initiating or re-energizing culture change, or building systems to support quality improvement. B & F helps providers build skills and systems to support inclusive leadership, supportive workplace practices and resident-centered caregiving.
B & F provides consultation, facilitation, education, and strategic planning services to individual care providers, state associations, culture change coalitions, state survey agencies, quality improvement organizations, ombudsman and other advocacy organizations, and workforce intermediaries. B & F works with regional, company-wide, and statewide collaboratives toward common goals for improvement related to workforce retention, culture change, or clinical outcomes. In these learning collaboratives where providers come together periodically, B & F provides expert content while facilitating individual and group learning.

Brawley, AAHID, IIDA, CID, is available for speaking presentations and workshops on how well designed healthcare environments do make a difference. She also conducts environmental assessments to help clients identify assets and problems, and prioritize problems for more effective design planning. Betsy is also available to help clients and staff develop detailed information about the size and use of spaces, how many people will use the space, and how these spaces relate to each other. She will help you with critical and often overlooked detailed evaluations of activities and activity programs to insure activity spaces are effectively designed and detailed to maximize participation.
Betsy uses good design, space planning, knowledge of special products and finishes and the skill to turn your vision into a reality that supports healthy aging. She is also available to review and critique your plan which is an opportunity to pick up missing details and improve on design solutions you have already planned, and ultimately determine if the design will function the way it should. In terms of outdoor spaces, Betsy helps you with therapeutic garden planning as almost any outdoor space can be designed or modified for an inviting, friendly, successful garden - especially for persons with dementia. Good design, activity programs, and getting program staff engaged in beneficial outdoor activities that work increase opportunities for fresh air, sunshine, and exercise that improve health and quality of life.

I.D.E.A.S., Inc., is committed to assisting organizations in the creation of more supportive settings for older people, particularly those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We firmly believe that successful care settings are grounded in a clear philosophy which directly impacts all aspects of the setting, from specific care practices, to operational systems such as meals and laundry, to staff training, to the design of the physical environment—inside and outside. I.D.E.A.S., Inc. is a multi-disciplinary firm, with expertise in architecture, sociology and aging, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and health care administration. Our dedicated team of professionals is specially trained to assist facilities in articulating their philosophy and model of care, which can then be refined into a set of prioritized therapeutic goals. These goals then serve as the basis for making decisions at all levels of care planning and implementation, including design decisions. I.D.E.A.S., Inc. is also committed to the value of systematic research as a foundation for our consulting activities. Over two-thirds of our annual budget comes from research grants, primarily from the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Mental Health. Recent grant activities include creating a low-cost alternative to traditional environmental consultation services for settings for people with dementia and the development of training videos for caregivers of people with HIV-associated dementia. Current research projects include an exploration of the impact of different models of care on special care units, the role of therapeutic kitchens, and a two year evaluation of a newly constructed, innovative nursing home. I.D.E.A.S., Inc. also maintains a comprehensive library on environmental issues related to elders, along with a product resource library of products available for both the home and alternate care settings.

The Eden Alternative® Website: www.edenalt.org E-mail: registry@edenalt.org
The Eden Alternative® is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming care environments around the world to habitats for human beings that promote well being rather than facilities for the frail and elderly. It is a powerful tool for improving the quality of life for Elders and for recapturing a meaningful work life for those that serve them. The vision of The Eden Alternative® is to eliminate loneliness, helplessness and boredom. Our mission is improving the lives of the Elder and their Care partners by transforming the communities in which they live and work.
The Eden Alternative® principle-based philosophy enables the transformation from the institutional approach of care to creating a community where life is with worth living. Led by our internationally-recognized founder, Dr. William Thomas, we use our 15 years of experience to help guide organizations through the culture change journey. The initial step to any culture change journey is to prepare the leaders for their new role in the implementation process. Steps are laid out for leaders on how to begin to spread the Eden Alternative philosophy throughout the home, preparing the staff to take a more active role in moving forward through empowerment, moving decisions to the elders and growth for all. By using the most innovative practices being seen in homes right now we help organizations prepare for the personal, organization and physical transformation.

Life is centered in a small house that is warm and green. Power moves to the elder with life revolving around the daily rhythms of the day. Workforce redesign empowers the Shahbazim (direct care staff) to work in self-mananged work teams while entering into powerful relationships with elders. Quality of care is advanced by involvement of nurses and the Clinical Support Team in partnership with elders, families and Shahbazim. These homes support a skilled nursing and assisted living level of care.
Wellspring Website: www.WellspringProgram.org Phone: 410-381-1176, ext. 220 (Charlotte Eliopoulos) E-mail: charlotte@HealthEd.net
Wellspring is an evidence-based model of culture change that was launched in 1994. Since that time, nursing homes with diverse profiles have used Wellspring to implement lasting changes in clinical and managerial practices that have enhanced the quality of life for nursing home residents and the quality of work for frontline staff. Recognizing that many nursing homes are unable to presently make significant changes to their physical plant, Wellspring provides guidance to assist nursing homes in achieving crucial elements of culture change within current physical structures. The focus is on organizational change that requires a substantial facility commitment. Frontline staff receives quality education and are coached on how to collect relevant data, critically evaluate information and finally, implement processes that improve care. Nurse consultants serve as clinical experts to oversee the program and provide implementation guidance and support. Networking among participating nursing homes provides a dynamic experience of sharing and encouragement.
Wellspring offers a Culture Change Launch Program consisting of onsite educational programs, nurse consultation via e-mail for one year and the monthly Wellspring e-letter; Individual Wellspring Workshop and Consultation Services based on an individual home's needs and desires; and opportunities for nursing homes to be part of a 10-member Alliance that includes a number of programs and services. |
